Grandmaster Roc Raida.. A Year Gone

Grandmaster Roc Raida born Anthony Williams (May 17, 1972 – September 19, 2009) was an American  DJ, turntablist and producer. He was also a member of the legendary DJ group, The X-Ecutioners.

He joined the X-Men in the late 80s, but due to copyright reasons, they later became known as The X-Ecutioners. The group released three studio albums, 1997's X-Pressions, 2002's Built from Scratch and 2004's Revolutions. In addition to his work with the X-Ecutioners, Roc Raida released albums as a solo artist, his most famous being 2005's Rock Phenomenon, a mash-up album he released with DJ Vlad that blended rock songs with hip hop songs, which won the Mash-Up Mixtape of the Year at the Justo Mixtape Awards. He also produced songs for artists including Ill Al Skratch, Showbiz and A.G., the Jungle Brothers, Mad Skillz, Smif-n-Wessun and Big Pun, and served as the DJ for Busta Rhymes.

He won the 1995 DMC World DJ Championship and was inducted into the DMC Hall of Fame four years later. He was the DJ for rapper MF Grimm through the mid-90s, during both of their early careers. He also appeared in in the 2001 film Scratch.



He died on September 19, 2009 from cardiac arrest due to complications a few weeks earlier relating to a mixed-martial-arts accident. Anthony "Grand Master Roc Raida" Williams is survived by his wife and three daughters Asia, Nyra and Tia.

It's been a year since he's gone. But his legacy will always be there and will never be forgotten. He's one of my inspiration of what I do. And so as many other turntablist out there. A legend of his own time. One of the greatest lost in the Hip-Hop community.

"Just the Way You Are" Bruno Mars New Single Released NOW" 

Bruno Mars has released the first single from his debut album. Previously, he released a EP titled “It’s Better If You Don’t Understand.” The EP was met by critical acclaim, and prompted Mars to release his first full length album. His first single from his debut album, “Just the Way You Are,” is already available on iTunes.
The title of the album has not been released as of yet, but Mars has said that he would like it to sound very similar to his first EP.

Mars went on to talk about the musicians that he would like to work with, naming Danger Mouse and Mark Ronson. He said that Ronson understands how to create live instrumentation without making it sound too adult contemporary.

My opinion. Bruno Mars did again. He is usually compared to John Mayer and Jason Mraz.

But John Mayer is John Mayer and Jason Mraz is Jason Mraz.

But guess what? I believe that Bruno Mars will be "THE Bruno Mars".

Let's face it. B.O.B will not have his first hit without Bruno Mars.
"Nothing On You" will not become a hit without the hook.
And I think everyone will agree when I say that no one remember or hardly remember the verse in a song.

2Pac Shakur's "Dear Mama" inducted into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry

Songs by Tupac Shakur , R.E.M. and Little Richard , and albums from the likes of Willie Nelson and Patti Smith are among the 25 eclectic recordings inducted into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry .

Under the terms of 2000's National Recording Preservation Act, the criteria for preservation by the Library of Congress are that the work be "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" and be at least 10 years old. Nominations were gathered from online submissions from the public and from members of the National Recording Preservation Board .

This year's list of recordings features a diverse selection of spoken-word and musical recordings that span the years 1913 ("Fon der Choope" (From the Wedding) -- Abe Elenkrig's Yidishe Orchestra) to 1995 (Shakur's "Dear Mama"). There are now 300 recordings in the National Recording Registry .

In its citation for "Dear Mama," the NRPB called the song a "moving and eloquent homage to both the murdered rapper's own mother and all mothers struggling to maintain a family in the face of addiction, poverty and societal indifference."

Nelson's album "Red Headed Stranger " is cited for its "uncommon elegance," and R.E.M.'s original version of "Radio Free Europe " is lauded for setting "the pattern for later indie rock releases by breaking through on college radio in the face of mainstream radio's general indifference."

Smith's "Horses," The Band's self-titled release, Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" and Howlin' Wolf 's "Smokestack Lightning " also made the grade.

Librarian of Congress James Billington said the Library of Congress' Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation in Culpeper, Va., will preserve and maintain the recordings and make them available to the American public.

Guru of Gang Starr Will Undergo Surgery Today (March 1)!

Guru from Gang Starr suffered a cardiac episode over the weekend and is currently in a coma. Details were still currently unavailable at this time about the rapper's condition and when the incident occurred.


Reportedly. Guru is currently in a New York-area hospital where he's expected to undergo surgery today (March 1, 2010).


Gang Starr's Dj Premier was scheduled to appear on Sirius XM's Hip-Hop Nation satellite radio station late Sunday night to speak about Guru's condition. However, Premier never called in: According to the producer's blog, the sensitivity of the situation prevented him from speaking publicly. In the same post, Guru was described as "fighting for his life."


DJ Premier confirmed the reports of Guru’s heart attack last night on his Hip-Hop Nation radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio.

As a member of Gang Starr, Guru delivered vocals for classic albums like No More Mr. Nice Guy (1989), Step in the Arena (1991), Daily Operation (1992), Hard to Earn (1994), Moment of Truth (1998) and The Ownerz (2003).

The rapper rhymed over 160 of DJ Premier’s productions throughout the course of his career, before launching his own record label 7 Grand in 2004 to continue releasing his legendary series of Jazzmatazz albums.

CONGRATULATION to J.R Celski for winning the Bronze medal.

J.R Celski won the bronze medal in the 1,500-meter short-track speed skating event. Although he is representing the US in the Olympics, he’s proud to have a Filipino blood. Celski born in Monterey, California is the youngest of three brothers. His father, Robert Celski served in the U.S. Army and his mom Sue is a full-blooded Filipina who hails from Isabela.

J.R. Celski sported a "three stars and a sun" Philippine flag-referenced tattoo on his chest, as shown on NBC and affiliate television networks the evening he was disqualified from the race.  Francois Hamelin of Canada, bumped Celski from behind. Of course, anyone will have that immediate reactions. But clearly it was not a pushed. In my opinion!! and I quote!! "LUTO, LUTO" ..They did the same thing to Apolo Ohno last night (Feb 26) when he was disqualified in the 500-meter run. I know all my friends from Canada will hate me for this.. February 7, 1974 - February 10, 2006

After quietly serving as a member of A Tribe Called Quest’s production team, the Ummah, and scoring hits for Busta Rhymes, De La Soul and Pharcyde, Detroit producer Jay Dee became known as a major hip-hop prospect by the late 90s. The hip-hop community took notice of his no-frills, breakbeat-heavy hip-hop style as he helped craft albums for Common (Like Water for Chocolate), Q Tip (Amplified), and the debut for his own group Slum Village (Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1).

By the time of his major-label debut with Slum Village’s Fantastic, Vol. 2 in 2000, Jay Dee was recognized as one of hip-hop’s most admired and desired producers. Jay Dee’s debut as a solo artist came in 2001 with the single “Fuck the Police” and the album "Welcome to Detroit" on BBE.

After assuming the name J Dilla, he joined the Stones Throw roster in 2003, forming Jaylib with fellow producer/MC Madlib, and relocated from Detroit to Los Angeles. The duo released the “The Red” b/w “The Official” in 2003, followed by the album "Champion Sound" and a tour the following spring. 

When Pharrell Williams was asked about his favorite hip-hop producer during a BET interview in 2004 he replied, “You may not know his name, but J Dilla, Jay Dee from Detroit.” Indeed, the interviewer didn’t know - J Dilla has eluded the spotlight, preferring the studio to the stage or video. His work is mostly released by independents, for different groups, and under different names, but his core audience and cult status has grown. His pirated beat tapes (instrumentals, raw working material for rappers) have become something of urban legend, as their circulation from hand to hand and over the internet have led to a black market of Dilla beat tape collectors.

Despite contributing two tracks to Common’s career-resurrecting "Be" this year, it’s been a quiet time for Dilla. So where has he been ? A cover story in URB (Mar 2004) made public his recent, sudden struggle with illness, and recently rumors began circulating again about health emergencies and hospitalization. Asked about this in XXL (June 2005), Dilla himself partially confirmed these stories. “The rumors were like, ‘Jay Dee is dead’ and all that, but I was just in the hospital. I was in ICU, with all types of tubes. It was crazy.”

 Working both from his home studio and while hospitalized - from a portable sound system including turntable, samplers, and small boxes of vinyl brought in and out from visitors - Dilla continued making music at his usual non-stop pace, circulating beats to MCs, and coming up with the foundation of what would become "Donuts".

Begun simply enough as a production beat tape, "Donuts" evolved into a project as unusual as the environment in which it was created. It’s a hip-hop album without MC’s. An album of electronic music that at times sounds like a 70s soul mixtape. Its abrupt transitions and numerous interludes might make you think you’re rapidly turning the radio dial in some strange city where every station is programmed by a certain Detroit hip-hop producer. "Donuts" is J Dilla doing what he does best - crafting hip-hop, soul and electronic music into his own sound. And a few have asked, “What’s up with the title ?” Easy explanation. Dilla likes donuts.

Health concerns again reached a peak in November 2005 when J Dilla toured Europe performing from a wheelchair. Jay Dee passed away on February 10, 2006 at his home in Los Angeles, California due to kidney complications associated with lupus nephritis.
