Born James Yancey and known as J.Dilla a.k.a Jay Dee
February 7, 1974 - February 10, 2006

After quietly serving as a member of A Tribe Called Quest’s production team, the Ummah, and scoring hits for Busta Rhymes, De La Soul and Pharcyde, Detroit producer Jay Dee became known as a major hip-hop prospect by the late 90s. The hip-hop community took notice of his no-frills, breakbeat-heavy hip-hop style as he helped craft albums for Common (Like Water for Chocolate), Q Tip (Amplified), and the debut for his own group Slum Village (Fan-Tas-Tic Vol. 1).

By the time of his major-label debut with Slum Village’s Fantastic, Vol. 2 in 2000, Jay Dee was recognized as one of hip-hop’s most admired and desired producers. Jay Dee’s debut as a solo artist came in 2001 with the single “Fuck the Police” and the album "Welcome to Detroit" on BBE.

After assuming the name J Dilla, he joined the Stones Throw roster in 2003, forming Jaylib with fellow producer/MC Madlib, and relocated from Detroit to Los Angeles. The duo released the “The Red” b/w “The Official” in 2003, followed by the album "Champion Sound" and a tour the following spring. 

When Pharrell Williams was asked about his favorite hip-hop producer during a BET interview in 2004 he replied, “You may not know his name, but J Dilla, Jay Dee from Detroit.” Indeed, the interviewer didn’t know - J Dilla has eluded the spotlight, preferring the studio to the stage or video. His work is mostly released by independents, for different groups, and under different names, but his core audience and cult status has grown. His pirated beat tapes (instrumentals, raw working material for rappers) have become something of urban legend, as their circulation from hand to hand and over the internet have led to a black market of Dilla beat tape collectors.

Despite contributing two tracks to Common’s career-resurrecting "Be" this year, it’s been a quiet time for Dilla. So where has he been ? A cover story in URB (Mar 2004) made public his recent, sudden struggle with illness, and recently rumors began circulating again about health emergencies and hospitalization. Asked about this in XXL (June 2005), Dilla himself partially confirmed these stories. “The rumors were like, ‘Jay Dee is dead’ and all that, but I was just in the hospital. I was in ICU, with all types of tubes. It was crazy.”

 Working both from his home studio and while hospitalized - from a portable sound system including turntable, samplers, and small boxes of vinyl brought in and out from visitors - Dilla continued making music at his usual non-stop pace, circulating beats to MCs, and coming up with the foundation of what would become "Donuts".

Begun simply enough as a production beat tape, "Donuts" evolved into a project as unusual as the environment in which it was created. It’s a hip-hop album without MC’s. An album of electronic music that at times sounds like a 70s soul mixtape. Its abrupt transitions and numerous interludes might make you think you’re rapidly turning the radio dial in some strange city where every station is programmed by a certain Detroit hip-hop producer. "Donuts" is J Dilla doing what he does best - crafting hip-hop, soul and electronic music into his own sound. And a few have asked, “What’s up with the title ?” Easy explanation. Dilla likes donuts.

Health concerns again reached a peak in November 2005 when J Dilla toured Europe performing from a wheelchair. Jay Dee passed away on February 10, 2006 at his home in Los Angeles, California due to kidney complications associated with lupus nephritis.

Pacquiao - Cotto fight. FIXED? Rigged in advatage of Cotto? Bob Arum's deal?

This is my opinion and my opinion alone. And observation during, before and after the fight. It doesn't matter if you believe me or not. I just felt like I have to say something.


I believe that the fight was FIXED. But unlike other postings and other blogs that I saw. I believe the fight was fixed in favor of Miguel Cotto. Don't get me wrong. IT WASN'T FIX SO THAT PACQUIAO WILL WIN. But for Cotto to save face and his career. WHY? I'LL TELL YOU.

Miguel Cotto was one of the best in the business. I will give him that. No doubt about it. He's a good fighter with a very powerful punch. I'm a fan of boxing. And I pretty much watch the best boxers in the world. Not just Pacquiao. I watched Cotto's last few fights. And from what I saw. And like I always tells everyone. I'll say the same thing I said about the Pacquiao-Dela Hoya fight. Oscar Dela Hoya doesn't have a chance. And I know Cotto doesn't stand a chance with Pacquiao as well. And I'm not saying this because I'm Filipino and that I'm a big fan of Pacquiao. But I'm saying it because it's the truth. Don't get me wrong. I'm a big fan of Dela Hoya as well. And I grew up watching him. But Pacquiao retired him. And just like the Dela Hoya - Pacquiao fight. Pacquiao was letting up. He's preying Dela Hoya but every time Oscar is about to hit the canvas. Pacquiao will back up. You all saw that. No denying it. But I believe the reason why. Is because they are good friends and Oscar is a big part of Manny's success. However, this is not the same case with Cotto. WHY? because they are not friends.

Ok. This is the reason why I think it was fixed. Bob Arum doesn't want Pacquiao to fight Mayweather. Not just yet at least. WHY? "MONEY" Their are other good opponents for Pacquiao as well. But all the fans in the world is waiting for Pacquiao - Mayweather. Noting else. But then again. He decided to go with Cotto. When we all know that he doesn't stand a chance with Pacquiao. At least that's my opinion. But Bob Arum went with Cotto because he knows he'll make more money if he kept Pacquiao fighting. Because let's face it. If Pacquiao retires Mayweather. Who else is their to fight? And that's the reason why Arum doesn't want Pacquiao to fight Mayweather just yet.

Bob Arum is the promoter from Top Rank. Pacquiao and Cotto are both from Top Rank. And let's face it. Both Pacquiao and Cotto are Arum's "MONEY MAKER" or "PRICE FIGHTERS" fighter. As you all know. Boxing promoters gets a huge cut from every single fight his fighters had. And of course. If Pacquiao retires Cotto which should have happen. Then Arum will lose one of Top Ranks price fighter (Cotto). And you know damn well he will not let that happen. And let's face it. When Pacquiao retires Mayweather. Which mostly likely will happen. THERE IS NO ONE ELSE! unless he went up another rank. Which Pacquiao doesn't want to. And Roach doesn't want Pacquiao to do so as well.

If you follow Pacquiao's fight for a long time. You know how he fight. I've been watching Pacquiao fight since 1998. The first time I saw him fight was in the Philippines. I was on vacation at the time. And my uncles are watching the fight. I can't remember who he fought at the time. But he wasn't famous at the time yet. And ever since. He prey on his oponent. He still do. Only this time. He have gotten smarter. More precise, a lot stronger, more faster, more focus and of course. More powerful than ever. Specially with the new development of his right arm.

Now, this is the Pacquiao that I know. Every time he prey on his opponent. And once he got the opportunity. He just kept on following through with his punches until he made that last punch that will bring his opponent down. We all saw it from Barrera up to Hatton's fight with Manny. Like I said. He always prey on his opponent until. He just keep on punching until he land his knock out punch. And he's been doing this every since. You guys saw that from Pacquiao - Hatton's fight as well..

But that was not the case this time. Cotto got the first round. And that's cool. But I realized that Pacquiao is letting up after the second round. WHY? because Pacquiao was letting Cotto punch him. Then every time he got Cotto cornered and is about go hit the canvas. He will not follow thrrough with his punches. Which you all know he always do. The last Pacquiao fight that I saw him not following through with his punches was with Dela Hoya. But with Dela Hoya's fight. You could really tell doesn't wanna knock Oscar out because he was backing up every time Oscar is about to go down. But this time. He was just not following through on his punches.

Cotto went on his knees twice. And you all know that's already a sign of weakness . And when was the last time you all saw Pacquiao's opponent went down on his knees once or twice and still made it up to the last round? Better yet. NOT KNOCK HIS OPPONENT OUT? That fight would have been over before the 7th round or less. And you all know it.

Freddie Roach predicted that it's going end at 9th round in favor of Pacquiao. And honestly, since when is Roach wrong about the round he predicted? And it was unusual that he said 9 rounds. WHY? Because he usually say smaller numbers. Then here comes 10th round. All of a sudden. Pacquiao's fight is starting to go back to normal. He was fighting the same way he was fighting before. The only problem is. Cotto kept on running. Cotto it doing hit and run.

Miguel Cotto got a cut. I can't remember what round he started bleeding though. But anyways, he just kept on bleeding and his face was really getting f*cked up. And if you really follow boxing. A doctor would have check him out already. But know one did. It doesn't mean that the doctor will stop the fight. But at least. He/she will check the fight out if he is still able to fight. Then Cotto's father wanted to stop the fight. But he was persuade from stopping the fight (so they say).

Then here comes the last round. Cotto was still running away. Then all of a sudden. Everybody is talking about the referee trying to stop the fight. WHY? WHY NOW? Pacquiao landed more than half of Power Punches than Cotto on every single round. He got cornered Cotto on several occasion. The fight should have been stopped a few rounds earlier. And if you watch the last fight again. You will see that Pacquiao's last three punches didn't even landed except for one. The first punch landed on Cotto's arm. The second one was on Cotto's face. Which is not even a power punch. Then surprise, surprise.. The referee stopped the fight. That's why the third punch didn't even laded. DON'T BELIEVE ME? watch the 12 round again below.



For the longest time. I watch great fighters and amateur boxers on the ring. And I never saw the referee sopt the fight after one hit. And without the fighter being preyed and cornered. And of course, the fighter not being able to throw a punch or be able to fight anymore. Cotto was still running strong when he stopped the fight.

Cotto would have been knocked out or the fight would have been stopped earlier than that. And you all know it. Plus who in the right mind will bring their kid on your fight? Unless you know that your kid would not see you hit the canvas.

Then after that fight. When Manny was doing the interview. He said that he will leave every decision to Bob Arum. His Promoter.

My hypothesis:

Bob Arum made a deal with Pacquiao that he could only knock Cotto out after the 9th or 10th round.
WHY?
Because if Miguel Cotto get knocked out in less than 5 rounds. That's the end of his career.
WHY YOU ASK? Because who else would fight him? No one will think that he is no longer a worthy opponent. He'll lose fan base. And of course. That's millions of dollars lost on Bob Arum's pocket.

Second:
They are shooting for a Pacquiao - Cotto trilogy. Which means if theirs a second fight. Pacquiao will throw the fight. Which is what I'm a afraid off. Or their will just be a rematch and Pacquiao will win again. And most likely, it's going to be decision as well or another TKO. WHY? Do I really have to tell you? It's more money on Bob Arum's pocket!!! He just can't let Cotto retire.

The way I see it. It's all about Cotto saving face and Bob Arum's fat ass wallet.
Because even if theirs no longer a rematch of the fight. And Pacquiao will go to his next opponent. In my opinion. They still FIXED the fight in favor of Cotto. Because like I said. Cotto's fight are money on Bob Arum's pocket.
